Permissions for Business Cases Studies

The Digital Course Reading Service does acquire permissions for some of the business cases used in courses at Toronto Metropolitan University. These permissions are done on a case-by-case basis, and fees are covered by the Library. Permissions need to be obtained each time a course is taught, and in most instances, a new updated case copy with dates and terms will be provided to the instructor. The expectation of use is that the case will be accessed via the Digital Course Reading Service (ARES). Unless there is prior permission, you cannot redistribute paper copies, or redistribute within your D2L course shell or on other platforms.

Top three vendors

Ivey

Harvard

Northwestern

Whenever possible we will acquire permission for business cases through these three vendors. As Ivey is a Canadian vendor, they are our preferred source for case acquisition. It is up to the discretion of the Library’s Digital Course Readings team to decide which vendor to use.

Timeline from top three: 5 business days

Outside vendors

Where we cannot get the case through one of the sources listed above we will consult with outside vendors. This may take longer to arrange permission and we will consider these requests on a case by case basis.

Timeline from outside vendors: 6-8 weeks

Last minute requests

Requests for business cases that come to us with short notice will be ordered as quickly as can be done. There may be times when we are unable to order cases with little notice. Please note that the Library’s Digital Course Readings service does not operate on weekends, holidays or outside of Toronto Metropolitan University business hours.

Custom coursepacks

All custom course packs for case studies arranged directly with publishers should go through the Campus Store.

Who to contact

Please send your case requests to the Library’s Digital Course Readings service at reserve@torontomu.ca. Please include the date you intend to use the case, and the estimated course enrolment in your course with your request.
