The Ryerson University Fashion Research Collection was founded in 1981 by Professor Emeritus Kathy Cleaver and contains several thousand donated garments and accessories dating back to the latter part of the nineteenth century. Primarily comprised of women’s wear, the collection also includes selected items of children’s and men’s wear. The collection includes many examples from Canadian designers and retailers, as well as international designers such as Christian Dior, Valentino, and Balenciaga. Highlights of the collection include rare examples of early 20th century gowns and accessories as well as the designer clothing and millinery collection of the late Kathleen Kubas.

The collection is intended to inspire and support object-based research by students and faculty. Access is by appointment only and interested persons should contact Ingrid Mida, Collection Coordinator at ingrid.mida@ryerson.ca.
