New Census Boundary Data Now Available in the GeoPortal

We are pleased to let you know that the following census boundary datasets have now been loaded into the GeoPortal:

– Historical Atlas of Canada: 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901, 1961

– Census of Canada Boundary Files, 1951 (Census Tracts and Census Metropolitan Areas) and 1961 (Census Tracts – Toronto area only)

With these additions, we now have Census Divisions (CD) data from 1851-1951 inclusive, and from 1981 through to 2011. The 2016 census boundary files have been recently released by StatsCan, and will be available in the Geoportal shortly. The entire collection of census and boundary data has also been reorganized to ensure naming continuity, and that all datasets are under series-level records whenever possible, including for the French language datasets. You can access this collection (126 data services) in the GeoPortal by browsing the ‘Subject Category’ field and selecting Census and administrative boundaries.

2011 CensusPlus Now Available via Simply Map Canada

“Due to changes in methodology, Statistics Canada is not officially releasing dissemination area (DA) data from the 2011 NHS, which replaced the long-form census. CensusPlus offers enhanced data for the most important NHS themes for all DAs in Canada, fills in missing values and eliminates random rounding in both NHS and Census data. The result is a comprehensive set of demographic variables available for any geographic level—be it standard census and postal geographies or custom client trade areas.” (Environics Analytics, 2014)   Read more…
