eHRAF Archaeology focuses on in-depth descriptive documents of archaeological traditions from around the world. eHRAF is unique in having subject indexing at the paragraph level. This allows detailed and precise searching for concepts not easily found with keywords.

eHRAF World Culture’s cross-cultural database contains in-depth descriptive information about cultural and social life written by first-hand observers such as ethnographers.Similar to eHRAF Archaeology, this database indexes subject at the paragraph level.

Ryerson Library has trial access to IBISWorld through Oct 27th 2014. (Trial is now over.)

IBISWorld’s NAICS collection analyzes industries at the 5-digit level offering the latest content on 700 industries. Research covers economic, demographic, and government data. Each industry report consists of 30 to 40 pages of key statistics and analysis on market characteristics, operating conditions, current and forecast performance, major industry participants and more. 4-page iExpert Summaries are available through this trial.

To keep our access to the content stable, the PDF download function of the reports have been disabled for the rest of trial. You can still access the reports online, print from your web browser, download excel files of info charts and save images using your web browser.

Thank you all for your interest in this trial.  We are pleasantly surprised by the amount of positive feedback we have received about the trial, and we know that there is a strong desire for us to subscribe to this product.

Given to our budget limitations, we are unable to subscribe at this time. However, we have put IBISWorld on our “wishlist” and re-visit the product as resources allow.

For the time being, please note that Ryerson Library does have other resources that provide retail industry reports and statistics. Find more information in our Market Research guide and/or ask our reference staff  for suggestions.

Trial: iPolitics

Ryerson has trial access to iPolitics through August 8th 2014.
Online and independent, iPolitics delivers up-to-the-minute non-partisan political news, information and analysis from Ottawa and across Canada. It provides in-depth coverage of politics as well as briefs about what’s making news at home and around the world.

Other features include:

Trial: Kanopy streaming video database

Ryerson Library has trial access to the Kanopy streaming video database for the month of July, 2014.

Kanopy is a streaming service that provides the platform to a host of educational video productions such as HBO, VideoFashion, Media Education Foundation, etc. The collection has over 20,000 video titles, covering a wide range of subjects. The current trial is a subset including sociology, business, hospitality, theatre , dance, literature, history and fashion.

The videos can be integrated with Blackboard courses, and accessed remotely. The majority of the videos are closed captioned and clip-making is allowed. PDA (Patron Driven Acquisition) is among the licensing options.

Ryerson Library has trial access to the Material ConneXion database through November 22, 2013.

Material ConneXion offers a knowledge base with an eclectic collection of innovative materials and processes. The database is updated regularly and frequently with materials juried by a panel of material specialists. It is a resource for all disciplines of design development, including: Architecture, Interior Design, Packaging Design, Retail Design, Industrial Design, Fashion, Apparel & Footwear, Exhibition Design, Textile Design, Landscape Architecture, and Transportation Design and includes the largest selection of sustainable materials and the only Cradle to Cradle materials library in the world: Polymers, Ceramics, Glass, Metals, Cement-based materials, Natural Materials, Carbon-based materials, and Processes.

Trial: Chicago Manual of Style

Ryerson is now hosting a trial of Chicago Manual of Style online.

This trial is for the rest of the Term until May 31, 2013 so there’s plenty of time to use this resource to help you write your papers. The website is fully searchable and includes content from 15th and 16th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style. Trial: Bloomsbury Drama Online

Ryerson University now has Bloomsbury Drama Online on trial until March 25th 2013.

The collection introduces new writers alongside the most iconic names in playwriting history, providing contextual and critical background through scholarly works and practical guides. It  features the pre-eminent theatre lists of Methuen Drama, the Arden Shakespeare and Faber and Faber as well as production photos from the Victoria and Albert Museum and will be continually updated.Drama Online will launch with initial content and will be continually added to throughout 2013.
