RULA staff believe that libraries – of all kinds – are for everyone. In that spirit, we are pleased to announce a new initiative to offer parents who bring their kids with them to the library a helping hand to keep them occupied: the Busy Box!
The Busy Box comes customized for three different age groups:
Each box contains three age appropriate books, various activities and small toys to keep little hands busy so that parents can attend to their own work while in the library, if only just for a short while.
Loan periods are limited to four hours. Crafts and art that your children create with the supplies are theirs to take home, but otherwise we ask parents or caregivers to do their best to ensure the contents of the boxes are kept intact. We ask that Busy Boxes remain onsite and are returned once you are finished with them.

I think this is a fantastic initiative! As a student specialist at the SLC, I see parents from time to time coming in to study with their children. This is much more productive for a child to use a busy box, so that their parent can focus.
That is great! I love every actions taken towards including kids in our day to day lives and especially helping parents continue to do what they love.
On my part, I’m contributing to supporting parent entrepreneurs and students by running a coworking space with on-site childcare. I would love to partner with you, Ryerson University, to provide an even better solution to your parent students.
Again, awesome idea that is sure to work well with your space and help lots of parents!
When will this initiative begin?
I believe this initiative has already started!
Hey Dana,
Working Ensemble, the coworking space with on-site childcare, has been up and running at one location for almost 2 years now. I’m currently working on expanding to more locations.
If this is the initiative you are asking about, you can find more information on WorkingEnsemble.ca or send me an email at welcome@workingsensemble.ca
About the RULA Busy Box, from what I reading here, it has started.
