This summer the Library has several exciting Experiential Learning Work Study positions available:
- Archives Imaging Assistant
The student hired for the Archives Imaging Assistant position will scan deteriorating 4 x 5 contact prints and negatives from the 1950s and 60s, which were primarily created for the Ryersonian student newspaper and used for publication in the University’s Calendar and in various student newspapers. These images are an important part of Ryerson’s history and will be made available online, wherever possible, on the new Archives website.Applicants should have a good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop as well as good time management skills. The student will work under the direction of the Archives and Special Collections Librarian. The position would suit a student in Journalism or History as it will give him/her a good working knowledge of Ryerson’s past.
- GIS and Webpage Assistant
Under the supervision of the GIS and Map Librarian, the candidate will assist in the delivery of a wide range of geospatial data and map products/services available through the Geospatial Map and Data Centre (GMDC) in the
Ryerson University Library. The successful candidate will assist the GIS and Data Technician with various tasks related to the search, access, and delivery of data via the Maps and Data at Ryerson (MADAR) website. The candidate must be able to work independently and as an effective team member to support services offered through the GMDC to the Ryerson University Community.
- Library Assistant
The Library is looking for a student to assist with a pilot project involving the Library and the Campus Bookstore on delivering one-step course readings. The successful candidate will assist with clerical duties, data entry and digitization. Under the supervision of the Audio-Visual and Reserve Services Librarian and Copyright Co-ordinator, the student will assist with data-entry involving the conversion of e-reserve records from the Blackboard system to the Ares reserve system and Custom Course Manuals data from the Bookstore’s Excel spreadsheets to the Ares system.
- Web Graphic Design Assistant
Under the direction of the Web Services Librarian, the candidate will work with Library staff to assist with producing web graphics and designing web layouts for the Library’s existing websites and for several new sites (Asian Heritage site, Data site, Jack Layton site) that the Library will be creating this summer. Graphic design for other Library projects such as touch screen kiosks, book-finder project, and print publications may also be required.
