Toronto Subway Celebrates 50th Anniversary

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Toronto subway system. Developed initially along Yonge Street, just a short block away from Ryerson Institute of Technology (as Ryerson University was then called), the subway has been an integral part of Ryerson life and has served as the main mode of transportation for members of the Ryerson Community over the years.

The two photographs reproduced here are from the 1953 and 1954 Institute yearbooks and show the inside of one of the train cars and construction on Yonge Street, looking north between Gould and Gerrard streets.

For more information on the Toronto Transit Commission is available on the TTC website and on their 50th Anniversary page.
