Canadian Copyright Essentials for Graduate Students
Canada’s Copyright Act protects both creators and users of copyrighted materials. As a graduate student you are both a creator and a user of copyrighted material. Issues that will be discussed will be who owns the intellectual property of work you do as a graduate student, how to comply with and check copyright requirements for your thesis submission, and what you should know about copyright as a teaching assistant. Using practical examples, this workshop will provide a brief history of copyright in Canada, a summary of recent changes, as well as guidance for the use of copyright materials in your research and teaching. Learn what you need to know about copyright, fair dealing and Canada’s changing copyright environment.
